Good value grips for low dollar build(12/02/2011)
I used these on a low-dollar carry officers build, they offer good positive grip. They fit the frame without any fitting and are of solid construction. Good basic wood grips to replace rubber / pillow wrap-around style grips on my Springfield Ultra Compact. Only downside? One grip panel has a small knot in it. It is smooth though and doesn't appear that it effects the integrity of the grip panel. They are a bit lighter than the standard GI wood off a WW2 era gun, but mine will be coated before too long.
Not a big name grip in quality, but at 1/3 to 1/4th the price? Works for me. Doesn't need to be pretty to be an EDC gun.
Nice Grips(02/02/2012)
Put them on a Ultra Carry 11.Made an all black pistol look real good!Good checkering and color, I put a coat of urethane on them to stop oil from soaking In. It didn't look as if it had any on them.Had to file a little wood to make the safety fit right. No big deal!Excellent price Im very pleased with this product.
GREAT GRIPS FOR THE $$(18/08/2012)
THE GRIPS REPLACED BLACK RUBBER ONES ON MY KIMBER ULTRA CARRY II.took them off because they were bright and light in color and rubbed on some old english dark furiture touch up.one coat,20 minutes done they look great....recommend highly..thank you brownells...
nice grips for the money(16/09/2012)
The grips were lighter in color than I wanted but once installed I really liked the way they made my gun looked. The quality was good the cuts were crisp and they fit nice and tight. I have them on for over a year now and still love them. No problems at all.
Rich in color(06/03/2013)
Breathed new life into my colt officers 1911. I had to file minimally because of my extended slide stop but would have fit perfect with the factory slide stop.
Decent grips for the money.(11/06/2015)
Given the price, these are about what i expected. Edges and peaks of the checkering are rough. I can deal with that, edges are really simple to fix. Checkering should smooth with use. These are temporary grips. I purchased a Colt McCormick Officers ACP, it came with crimson trace wraparounds which are not correct at all. These will do while I wait for the other grips to be made. I had to trim the top edge of the left side grip to allow the safety to function correctly. I used a dremel (I know) and it took about 10 seconds. It's uneven but functional. Smoothed the edges and a bottom corner that was uncomfortable when gripped by hand. Now they're good, and ultimately $30-ish bucks shipped for grips isn't a bad deal.
I rated these as Five Stars based on price/value. For the price these are great. If you want really nice grips, spend twice as much. I used these to replace the smooth glossy grips that came on my mil-spec Rock Island 1911. I think these grips, being less shiny and checkered, look more "proper". Even the fact that the checkering is a little rough ads to standard military issue look.
Required a little fitting.... just some filing of the relief for the mag release... five minutes with a small half-round file.
Nice grips at good price point. (04/02/2016)
perfect for me(25/01/2013)
fit and feel are great. a couple of squirts of urethane made the finish i like. the lighter set i put on my colt gold cup trophy and the sightly darker set i put on the blue kimber gold match classic both of which are used mostly for target and self defence.figured the urethane not only would enhance the looks but for protection from rain or weather on the trail.nothing better for the price.
great value!!!(04/01/2011)
im a fan of the double diamonds and you just cant go wrong for the money! not a high gloss finish but nothing a squirt of urethane cant cure if thats your fancy... the checks are super crisp on these did not expect the quality i received for the money... extremely happy!!!
Acceptable(18/07/2011)
These are just OK. The checkering had a few mistakes. The fit is also just OK. Tried them on 3 frames. They fit but not as nicely as some others. Navidrex has been around a long time, I expected better.
These grips are terrible.(03/04/2012)
There was no, "Deep reddish/brown color of varying intensity.." at all, as the description states. I would describe the grips I got as blonde or light bright with no depth at all. The checkering was also terrible. Some cuts went into the sides of the diamonds. Very sloppy.
Great for the Price(27/06/2012)
I just recieved this product and I am very happy about it. I put it on my RIA 1911 to replace the stock slick walnut grips, and they fit perfectly, no fitting required. They improved the grip greatly over the previous slick ones thanks to the studded cross hatching. Honestly I can't say anything bad about them. I was a little skeptical when I bought them but they are as they look in the picture. They are well worth the price, especially VS some of the more costly wood grips out there.
REAL BARGAIN !(29/10/2012)
I bought two sets of these last week, and am ordering another today. Fit is perfect, and they look GOOD.
These are nice. Look before fitting(29/12/2013)
I got these for my son to go on his RIA tactical. They are beautiful. Nice fit, checkering and diamonds. Just look them over before fitting. He handed them to me, I made the ambi cuts, fit them, installed them, and the left grip had a chip on the bottom. I know it was there from production as the chip is oiled. If I had seen before fitting, I would have exchanged for a new one.
Great for the price(27/01/2014)
Bought these for my Auto-Ordnance to replace the factory plastic grips. I was hesitant because of some of the reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised when they arrived and installed them. They were a little lighter than the sales picture, but they fit perfectly, felt good in my hand, and looked (I thought) pretty darn good. For the price, I wouldn't hesitate to buy them again.
Fits like a glove on my 30's era A1 Colt(01/02/2014)
They did require a little filing at the mag release area of the grips to be able to release the magazine. As with any 1911, this may or may not be the case with your gun but, don't let that stop you from taking advantage of this great value! If you don't like the color, you can get them stained to your liking. Overall, these are quality grips for the money!
I use it in a sprinfield 1911-A1 that I bougth to a friend ,it had black rubber grips and the pistol is stainless steel , now looks a lot better.
The wood do not like to have any tint on it so I will do .
My arm is ambidiest so I will need to do some fitting.
Buy with confidence , anyway they are not expensive if you dont like it you can give it to a friend.
Very nice, quality exceeds price point(15/09/2015)
I have a 1918 production Colt that has very similar "double diamond" grips and I absolutely love the style. I recently bought a much less valuable shooter to use at the range, and added these to give it a bit more classic appearance.
Product vs. price(19/11/2015)
These grips are a great bargain. I was concerned, after reading a few of the reviews, that I would be wasting my money. I received the grips and am very happy with the product. I knew that for the price they would not be presentation grade grips.
The grips were installed on a work horse, Springfield that I carry in a desert environment. This sidearm is a tool and not a safe queen. I am familiar with other materials but I like the feel of wood grips vs. other types.
The checkering was acceptable and they provide a more than adequate gripping surface. Overall, very pleased with product for the price.
Good, but not great(12/06/2018)
This appeared to be a good value and I have usually been well pleased with previous orders from Brownells. The grips arrived the other day and after treating them with boiled linseed oil installed them on a Model 1911 pistol. The grip screw holes fit very well and looked fine. I inserted a magazine and was unable to remove it because the right grip panel cutout for the magazine release was off center. I removed the right grip and spent a few minutes with a file opening the cutout for the magazine release. The grip was reinstalled and the release works as it should. The downside is that the relief cutout is overly large and unsightly. My advice is spend a few more dollars and buy Colt grips that have always worked well.
