Armorers Barrel Nut Wrench(09/07/2013)
This is a great wrench but it will not fit over a Float Tube. For use only on non-floated rifles.
Works perfecty. Built like a tank.(19/11/2009)
I used this to loosen and tighten a Larue Tactical barrel nut and it worked perfectly. No fear of the wrench slipping. This thing is build like a tank. The only downside is that you need to have a "clean" barrel in order for this thing to work; would not fit over my Larue Tactical low profile gas block...but that can be a non-issue.
Tough and easy to use(31/12/2009)
This is one thick, tough barrel wrench, and it's got enough pins to rotate the toughest nut off. I like it because unlike the combination wrench, the torque wrench is in line with the barrel wrench. That said, you have to slip it over the end of the barrel, unlike the combination wrench type. You will break a receiver before this wrench fails.
works(17/01/2010)
This thing is built strong, but I needed to hammer it onto the barrel nut. Nothing major, just giving a heads-up. Once it was on it worked great!
Solid Piece (with minor fitting)(03/11/2010)
Purchased this along with a DPMS barrel wrench. The item needed slight fitting or to hammer it in to get it to work. Once in place, it was solid. I found the DPMS barrel wrench easier to manipulate overall and apply leverage than the PRI. But; this is a SOLID product and would work well as well as has more contact points, BUT may require slight fitting on some AR's. Thanks.
Best Tool Investment I Ever Made(28/01/2011)
I've used the 'multi tool' versions of this and they were a pain to use. They worked undoubtedly, but not as easy as this. I was able to knock out a triple torque of a barrel within minutes with the secure grip of this to the barrel nut and my torque wrench's grip on this tool.
anything else is a joke...(03/06/2011)
Don't waste time or money on any other barrel nut wrench, this is the best, works on the tough stuff, makes life sweet!
best barrel nut wrench out there(20/09/2011)
Used to build heavy barrel AR15. Worked great fit barrel nut for free float hand guard perfect. Well made heavy duty not some cheap poor made unit. Heavy gauge steel pins go all the way thru and are welded on back side. Very sold.
Heavy duty piece of gear(18/11/2011)
This thing is built to last. Very solid and heavy. The wrench needs some tapping to fit to barrel nut but this is a non issue.
If you need to play with barrel nut, buy this product.
This thing is a HOSS!(09/04/2012)
Extremely tough, you will be more likely to break your torque wrench then break this tool. Fits factory barrel nut as well as after market free float style nuts. Very well made product and I am very pleased with it!
The "KING KONG"of nut wrenches(10/05/2012)
King Kong heavy duty. Works perfectly on free float nuts. As stated by others it does not easily slip on some standard handguard nuts, could be a nut problem.I choose not to use hammers to get things to fit so I carefully reduced the diameter of the pins about .0003.Outside of that minor situation it is a great tool.
Can't use with gas block(07/06/2012)
I should have realized it from a glance, so shame on me. A high quality product that works great for its specific purpose (new builds), but this tool CANNOT be slipped over the barrel with even a low-profile gas block in place! I have to use my combo armorer's wrench more often, because I hate to pull gas blocks off unnecessarily.
Solid Steel(13/07/2012)
Solid steel barrel nut wrench, use 3/8" or 1/2" drive torque wrenches, break over bars and rachets or jar the nut loose by smacking the wrench with a hammer. If you break this wrench, you did it by doing something other than working on guns!
Fit like a glove(25/07/2012)
I could not find pin spacing or pin dia. dimensions for this tool anywhere online and was anxious to see if it would fit my YHM free float barrel nut. I found it fit perfectly with very little pin slop when mated to the barrel nut. The 3/8 and 1/2 inch drive holes hold the wrench decently enough with my preference being the 1/2 inch as the 3/8 inch handle doesn't do this massive tool justice. For those who are interested, the pin dia. is .187 inch and hole I.D. is 1.0 inch. I would buy another but I doubt I would ever break it, but it would definitely make a great gift for an AR buddy.
Excellent Tool(20/01/2013)
After using this tool I'll never use one of those AR15 multi-tools again for torquing a barrel nut. The 5 pin design distributes the torque evenly around the circumference instead of having offset to one side. Especially beneficial on installations that require 70-80 ft/lbs to align the gas tube.
Outstanding Quality(20/04/2013)
Incredibly well made barrel nut wrench. I used it for my ATI free floating barrel nut. It applies equal torque around the "bolt circle", because of the five pins, which is very important when torquing down a nut. Forget about the Armor's wrench, this is ten times better. Don't even think twice - BUY IT!
Best AR 15 barrel nut wrench yet(09/07/2013)
I had a stuck Barrel nut that stripped out the lugs and teeth on both my barrel nut and veteran barrel wrench. This is the mac daddy and it seats deeper than deep and has six hardened steel pins and the rest cut out of plate steel
Best tool for the job!!!(25/10/2013)
I bought this tool with my new barrel nut after completely ruining my existing one by trying to use an AR15 multi-tool. Used it within minutes of it being delivered. The tool is a thick, heavy, solid chunk of metal... there is no questioning its durability! The 5 studs fit very snugly (almost too snug) on to barrel nut giving excellent traction with no slippage at all. I like the ability to use a ratchet/breaker bar/torque wrench without having to work around the handle on the multi-tool. The multi-tools are good for the light duty/low-torque applications, but do yourself a favor and get one of these for a barrel wrench. It will save you money on barrel nuts, time, frustration, and busted knuckles from the multi-tool slipping.
Works great(12/07/2014)
Wrench is heavy duty and up to the task. I didn't want to remove my FSB to install the bbl., so I decided to just cut a slot in the wrench to fit the bbl. through. I felt this would allow the wrench to be used in most all applications. Worked great.
Brutal!(20/08/2014)
This wrench FITS the Smith&Wesson MP-10 .308 rifle perfectly. It is a BRUTE, fits the nut like a glove and has clearance for the barrel.
Will not work on all barrels(05/05/2015)
Wrech does not have an open end. If you are planing on using it on a barrel with a gas block or sight post already in place this wrench will not work unless you remove all the hardware on the barrel. Great for a barrel with no hardware, but if you have a gas block or sight post already assembled on the barrel, plan on more work or a different wrench.
Outstanding 'Automotive Grade' Tool(02/06/2015)
Purchased this for first AR build. Used to install a DD barrel with a Nordic Components FF Hand guard Barrel Nut. Fit on the barrel nut was perfect. Torquing was easy. Did not have a problem slipping this over my LowPro DD gas block already on the barrel. The clearance however WAS very close.
This tool is so stout that one can easily 'hog out' the center for other slightly taller gas blocks. You'll have about 1/8" you can remove. Also, as someone else notes the tool can be cut to allow slipping over the barrel if you can't clear the block on an installed barrel. A side benefit of that cut is realigning while the gas tube is installed (if minor adjustment is needed).
It would be a 5+ if the tool were available with one stud removed and a cutout already done. NOTE: no worries about breakage here, BUT if you have a high torque (60 -100 ft lbs) be sure the tool is flush to the nut as you can bend/break a stud by improper alignment.
Beware of pin positions(12/07/2015)
This is a heavy, solid barrel nut wrench... that did not work for my application. The nut for the Vector Optics float tube I bought had holes at 90 degrees; unlike many other wrenches, the pins in this wrench are at 72 degrees.
A good armorers wrench would be a better, more versatile purchase.
This wrench is more than I expected(31/12/2015)
I just received this wrench and i am amazed at the quality. The wrench is heavily constructed, strong pins that fit my Nordic NC-1 barrel nut and fits right with my 1/2 inch torque wrench. I am sure this item will handle as many rifles as I care to build. Typical Brownells shipping ... 2nd day express. What more can one ask for ?
Not for DPMS or Rock River Free Float Tu(27/02/2016)
Will not work on DPMS or Rock River - NRA / CMP style free float tube. Wrench ID is 1.075" while barrel nut for free float tube is 1.245".
Perfect for cmp(19/01/2017)
Works perfectly on DPMS or Rock River - NRA / CMP style free float tube couldn't be happier and have done dozens of them with this tool.
Solid tool(23/07/2017)
Impressed with the heft of the wrench...very solid. However, if you are wanting to use on a DPMS Gen ii 308, be aware the hole is about 15 thousandths too small. I had to grind away for about 45 minutes to enlarge the hole to fit over the DPMS Gen ii barrel nut. Once the hole was enlarged it worked like a charm.
THE BEST(09/08/2017)
I have changed hundreds of AR 15 Barrels. I have used dozens of different wrenches. This wrench is the best there is. It is well made. Does it's job well and is a joy to use when changing a barrel.
Great tool!(17/02/2018)
Ordered this tool as the price was right and reviews were good. Works perfectly with mil-spec barrel nuts. No damage to teeth at all. Wish I'd bought this years ago. Buy with confidence.
