nice(28/03/2010)
worked perfectly with the yhm rear buis. i have a railed block which sits lower than the forearm rail so this was what I needed to have the sights line up.. locks in place when flipped up. has a button on side to release it.. says YHM on the front too, engraved in.. the rear YHM sight had it engraved and colored white.. fyi..
Great Flip-Up Front Sight(11/01/2011)
Mounted perfectly on my gas block. Solid, well built flip-up. No slop, and it locks positively in the 'up' position. Push the button to push it back down. The thumb screw secures the sight to the gas block and does not come loose while shooting. The protective 'ears' fit perfectly within the EOTech's round reticle. I have no complaints.
Solid all steel construction(23/04/2011)
Extremely rugged all steel overall construction. There are however two areas that needs to be addressed. (1)the side mounted detent for the front sight post will not work with some after market front sight post that only have two notches settings for the detent. (2) The sight tower can only be locked in the deployed position but not folded and can be accidentally swiped to deploy when snagged. These criticism however are quite minor and in no way affects the overall functioning of the sight. It still deserves a 4 star rating.
Rock Solid Sight(06/11/2011)
Goes on tight and stays on. Sight flips up with a positive lock and will not wiggle. Perfect for your railed gas block that sits below receiver/battle rail plane.
good solution for gas block mounted buis(01/01/2013)
If you build a 7.5 or 10.5 upper w a railed gas block up front this is the plug and play solution for a backup front sight.I worked with a handful of single rail risers seems no one makes one 1/4 inch they're all 1/2 inch which puts your sight to high or 2 low without the correct riser.
If you are using a J and T upper you definitely need this.J andT gets about 95 for this. The other choice is a GG&G which is 40 bucks more. This sight will also allow one to use a magpul sling mount on the same rail w the sight.I had to machine mine to make it about 1/8 shorter so the sight would rest in the closed position. If the lock button wasnt flimsy,I'd give it a 5 plus its high priced for what it is...
Great Set for an offset gas block mount!(12/02/2013)
I put this front sight on the gas block and its dual apature brother for the rear sight on a DPMS Oracle and they worked perfectly. It was sighted in out to 200 yds with a few rounds still in a 20rnd mag. I have no intentions of removing them and did not lock tight but used pliers to add slightly more pressure to the thumb bolt. I have roughly a thousand rounds through it with no loosening. Also turned the front sight 180deg. to fold forward so it would fold all the way down because it hits the hand guard the other way.
Good flip-up front sight by YHM(09/07/2014)
I have this sight on my DPMS Oracle with Magpul MOE hand guards and Magpul MBUS sight on the rear. My rifle came with a railed gas block that is not at the same level as the rails in the upper receiver.
With this setup, the issue was that the YHM sight would touch the front of the Magpul hand guards, therefore wouldn't lay flat. My solution was to simply turn it around, so when not in use, I push the sight forward instead of backwards as it should be. I'm left-handed, so this actually works better for me, as I do not need to take my left hand off the grip and can push the button and flip it down with my right hand. But if you want to install it the "right" way, watch for your hand guards, especially if Magpul MOEs.
I also suggest putting a bit of lock tight when you install it. Mine came off after shooting a 30-round mag, but my fault for not tightening hard enough. With blue lock tight it has not moved in 210 rounds.
Sighting was pretty simple with an front sight tool; works perfect with my Magpul rear sight and the red dot I have on that rifle (co-witness perfect).
Very good piece of hardware that works well for my needs.
