Buy Quality, Not This(13/07/2013)
You get what you pay for. Please bear with me, but I'd like to start this review with an analogy. I ride mountain bikes A LOT, and I always see people buying $199 X-Mart specials and then parking them after three rides because the chain keeps falling off whenever they shift or hit a bump, and then they decide that they don't like riding because they bought a junk bike, rather than on the true merits of mountain bikng. The same principle applies here. The Lee primer system is atrocious, the shellplate shakes so much that you'll find powder flying out of the casings to clog the action, and it just has so much going on with each handle pull that too much continues to go wrong. Buy this and you'll call reloading too much of a pain and quit, OR you'll end up buying a second quality machine that costs 3x what this does... and that second machine will quickly pay for itself in ammo costs while you smack your forhead wondering why you wasted so much time and money on a Lee loader to begin with. Then you'll throw away your Lee because you're too nice of a person to pawn this piece of junk off on another new reloader. AND you'll stick with reloading because you ditched the Lee! (NOTE to add: my distaste for Lee loaders is limited to their progressives-- it's hard to screw up a single-stage, so I'll gladly recommend the Lee single-stage!)
Excellent value!(07/03/2016)
The best buy in a progressive press. Produces accurate loads. I have used Lee Precision products for many years and have been satisfied with their products with one exception, the automatic bullet feeder which I could not get to work properly.
Great deal - easy to use(19/04/2017)
Reloading 45 Colt, about to buy another one for 38 spcl. This thing once set up is great. I will say the instructions are a bit sketchy. But there is so much info on the net the provided instructions are not even needed. I have set it up for other calibers but why go through all that. They are so affordable you can have two or three with bench plates and still come out ahead.
Great Press For The Price, but......(08/07/2013)
I have 2 of the Lee Pro 1000 Presses. I started out with one in .38 Special. Have loaded thousands and thousands of rounds on it. Works well, but you have to use the recomended primers. Others tend to jam up the primer feed. You also have to keep the press clean. Miss and primer, spill some powder and things start jamming up in hurry.
I liked my .38 special press well enough that instead of buying the parts to convert it to 9MM, I just bought a whole press set up for 9MM. Now I have both set up on my loading bench.
As I was setting up the new 9MM press and just as I got everything adjusted my wife yelled "dinner will be ready in 6 minutes" I had almost a full box of 50 rounds loaded before the dinner timer went off. That was at a nice safe steady pace, not trying to rush.
You Get What You Pay For(13/07/2013)
Brownells sells Pro 1000's in two seperate pages, apparantly split by rimmed and auto cases; I did a more thorough review under the .38spl group. Put simply, the priming system is a nightmare. The shellplate lacks smoothness so it shakes powder out of the cases just to muck up the whole system. I spent more time cleaning/fixing my Pro 1000 than I did running it. I bought another brand for 3x the amount, and I'm still shaking my head at how much time and money I wasted on this Lee piece of garbage. I hated it so much I couldn't in good conscience sell it or even give it away to another new reloader, so I disassembled it and turned its parts into a stand for an RCBS powder dispenser that I use when single-staging rifle loads. 'Nuff said?
I wont buy this again(28/10/2013)
I had issues with 223 Remington case feeding into the de-primer position; more than one case would feed. Also, the powder measurer is highly inaccurate by as much as +/- 2/10 of a grain. So your loads are not accurate!! You are better off buying a single stage reloader!! This is ok for pistol reloading BUT NOT rifle reloading.
Not a bad press(11/12/2013)
This gives good results if you take the time to set it up correctly. I have had problems with it at first until I found a sight that has videos on the proper set up. Now it runs like a sewing machine. Most rate it low but that's because they didn't set it up correctly or completely cycle the handle. Also you need to get the feel for the priming system since it primes on the up stroke on the handle. I've loaded well over 1000 rounds on this thing and have only had 3 malfunctions that were my fault for not completing a cycle of the handle. You can't beat it for the price.
Great Press(12/12/2013)
I use this press from 38 to 223. Take your time to start and learn the feel of the press. Always check your brass. 223 brass should be trimmed as per specs. The +/- .02 will not make a difference unless your loading hot loads. Watch you tube videos they will help you get started.
