It works, but... not so good.(16/09/2015)
This extended magazine release installed easily enough, looks good and fits well in the Glock 43. But, with this release installed, there's less material extending from the side of the grip than with the stock magazine release button. For me, the "extended" magazine release actually made it harder to release the magazine than with the stock release button. Disappointed, I immediately reverted back to the stock release button.
This is not an "EXT" or extended(23/10/2015)
Put this in my G43 as an upgrade. I immediately took it out and put the factory mag release back in. It is not an "EXT" or extended mag release. It actually has a shorter profile than the factory one.
Save your $$..(13/12/2015)
I love Brownell's and have spent a lot of $$ here this year, but this product is a total FAIL for both the Glock 42 and the Glock 43.
I could not believe this product touted as an "extended" mag release is anything but extended. It is no better than stock. I would have sent both back, but my time is worth more than the hassle. Sorry to sound like a whiner, but I can't understand why Vickers and Brownell's can possible sell this item as extended...especially Vickers for crying out loud.
Save your $$ guys and gals...let my pain be your gain and look for another brand.
Alternative - Poor Mag Release Extension(10/03/2016)
In response to some of the negative reviews, I have the same issue. It is awkward to press the mag release button with your thumb (right hand shooter) without changing hand position. Instead of the "extension", I switched the button to the right side. Without shifting my grip, I was able to use the middle finger (don't flip me with it please!) to easily press the button and eject the mag. All hands are different, but worked for me. Try it.
Good for a lower profile mag release(12/08/2016)
As a LH shooter I like the lower profile release. I have always trained to drop my mags with my index finger so I've never had any interest in reversing my mag releases. I also carry IWB and have had some issues with my holster belt clips (against the factory mag release) popping my mag out. I believe this will remedy that and also allow me to keep my release oriented the way I've always trained with them.
Does not improve mag release(29/12/2016)
Have multiple vickers parts and love them all, but this mag release is no larger than the factory one and honestly is even harder to use than the factory one. save your money
Mag Release Prob Solved(02/11/2016)
This mag release solved a prob on my G43. I am a lefty and when firing, sometimes I would release the magazine by accident. I tried to get use to it on the opposite side however did not like it. The low profile of this magazine release solved the issue. For those of us who use our index figure to drop the mag, it works great. The serrations are on the back side of the release making it easy to push the release. I would highly recommend for anyone who doesn't mind it's low profile. Thanks Vickers!
Best Gen4 Mag Release on the market!(25/04/2016)
It just does what it's supposed to. I've tried several cheaper brands, but I ended up buying the Vickers for my competition and carry Glocks.
Terrible(18/05/2016)
Installed this product and immediately re-installed the factory mag catch release. I have never purchased a product through Brownell's that wasn't great until this one. Even when I smash down on this mag release, it is still hesitant to release the mag, and I assure you it is installed 100% correctly. It is truly terrible, and I hope that no one else wastes their money on this product. I hope this review will advise you in a different direction. Either keep what you have stock, or purchase something other than this, because it is far inferior to the stock mag release.
I changed my Rating!(16/04/2018)
Originally I installed this within my GEN 4 model 22 Glock, and I did not perceive a noticeable difference. It looked to be very similar to the OEM Glock part. I was not happy to have spent money on a part that was not needed.
I was disappointed with the fact that I could not do a mag release with only one hand. I had purchased the Vickers Tactical slide release and I was very impressed with its design. So I was somewhat confused why the Vickers Tactical mag catch was not working one-handed.
I reached out to Tango Down, and asked to speak with someone that could enlighten me on how to properly use the mag release. I was very impressed with the fact that they forwarded my call to their specialist. In case you have not dealt with Tango Down before, let me tell you, they are a class act!
I was informed that the design of the Vickers Tactical mag release enables you to release the magazine one-handed if you have medium to lage hands. For smaller hands, like mine, it requires a slight release of the grip a bit in order to release the mag. I was able to take my middle finger and use the trigger guard as a brace and use my thumb to release the magazine one-handed.
The design of the Vickers Tactical part is engineered to have a bump up near the end of the mag release to provide the necessary leverage to engage the mag release. This would not have been possible with the OEM part, since I would have to stretch my thumb out even further towards the front of the pistol.
Please take a look at the pictures that I posted on the different sides of the pistol showing how to brace the pistol one handed with smaller hands.
Excellent Ergonomics, QC could improve(18/04/2018)
Excellent design and ergonomics. Nothing else on the market comes close to striking the exact balance between extra length and shape for ease of use and comfort for use and concealment. It does seem however that Tango Down's QC could be tightened up. One out of a few usually requires fitting to free up in the mag release track. You can run the mag catch/release down the face of a file, even on both sides until it fits well and moves against the resistance of the mag spring. An example of one that needed fitting was nearly stuck in place in the magazine catch/release track on multiple Glocks. It required excessive force to release.
Just what the doctor ordered!(06/05/2012)
I was looking for an extended mag release with a bit more length and this is perfect on my 21SF. I don't have to change my grip at all to drop the magazine with my right thumb and it doesn't stick out too far.
Does as advertised.(28/11/2012)
I wanted this just for the rounded edges but the extra length proved to be useful. When pressing to release magazine I get a stronger press. Makes magazine changes faster for me. Price should be $10.00. Even during a recession. Got to pay for Vickers namebrand.
Works perfect for G21 SF Gen3(04/10/2017)
Doing some online research trying to find the right part to replace the stock magazine release. Being left handed, I always scratched part of my hand with the factory part. Well, not any more! This Vickers part easy perfect. Easy to install, rounded to NOT catch flesh and still easy to operate the mag release too.
Better than the Glock extended release!(04/08/2009)
I've been using this on both of my carry Glocks (G19 & G26) since June 2008. It's a much better option for concealed carry than the Glock OEM extended release. The corners are rounded to make it less prone to snagging an undershirt or other clothing, and it's a slightly lower profile than the Glock extended release to prevent accidental mag ejection when the weapon is laid flat on a table. I'm wary of aftermarket Glock parts, there's a lot of GARBAGE out there. Tango Down is a reputable manufacturer, and Larry Vickers is a highly regarded name in the tactical training community. This a no-brainer upgrade from the factory configuration.
Perfect Length(06/11/2009)
The Vickers magazine release is slightly longer than the factory release, but is still a bit shorter than the optional Glock extended release. I've used all three variants and the Vickers unit is, quite simply, the perfect length. The slightly rounded edges are a nice touch and don't dig in when carrying inside the waistband.
Must have(03/04/2010)
installed on my duty g22, improves the mag release 100%, in my book a must-have
Perfect for people "without" giant hands(14/05/2010)
Use it on my duty weapon, a G22. Increased my confidence in the weapon which is always a plus. Can change mags without changing my grip, crisp fluid release every time.
Perfection!!(23/08/2010)
I have this on my Glock 19 that I use for self-defense. It is perfection!!!! I'll be installing more of these mag releases on all my other Glocks!!
Excellent Compromise(16/11/2010)
The Vickers catch is the ideal in-between from the short hard to use stock release and the large frame model 21 release offerings. I found the model 21 release would inadvertently pop the mag when carried on my ankle. Standard release require me to shift my grip and a radical press to release the mag. On my model 26 this is perfect.
ext mag release better than factory(27/11/2010)
WORKS GREAT WITH ALL MY GLOCKS MODELS 17,19
better than I thought(03/12/2010)
this was a cheap enough upgrade that I didn't mind gambling for a minor improvement. after taking about 2 minutes to replace the part on my G23, I tested it and was amazed at the improvement. my mags ejected cleanly, quickly and smoothly after using this. I wish I had bought this sooner.
Perfect Size and a Great Finish(09/01/2011)
I put one of these on my Glock 19. I have average sized hands (medium glove size) and this release is the perfect size. Not too long like the glock extended release, but not too short like the stock release. My only beef is that it is a bit expensive compared to the Glock parts. Overall it's worth the extra money. It has a great finish with smooth, rounded edges, while the Glock parts are very sharp and uncomfortable. Highly recommended for those without large hands.
poor quality-got 2 that were out of spec(26/02/2011)
got one, mags fit loosely, so i returned it. decided to try another thinking the first was just a bad one, and the mags still fit loosely. compared it to the stock part, and it was thinner (not spec). don't bother with this garbage.
Good upgrade(18/05/2011)
I have installed these on all of my Glocks and prefer them to both the OEM mag release and the OEM extended mag release. You do still need to be careful laying the pistol down on a hard surface with the mag release pointing down, as pressure/weight on the pistol can cause it to release the magazine. (But then that's what chamber and mag checks are for...) Overall, well made and easy to install. Works as advertised.
Works Awesome(13/06/2011)
Does what it is supposed to do.
Great product!(04/10/2011)
I put this upgrade on my 3rd gen Glock 23. What a difference! I dont need to change grip to drop magazine. Will recomend to everyone.
Just RIght(23/11/2011)
It's just the perfect amount of extension for positive engagement without having the change your grip. Just a bit longer than stock but not as long as most. Some of the longer ones will accidentally release the mag in holster. I haven't had any issues with this one yet.
Great part worth the price.(14/01/2012)
Okay, a couple reasons why I got this part. The stock mag release is alright, but you have to change your grip, & an extended release is also one of the standard upgrade that Duane Thomas recommends. I also appreciate that this part was made in the U.S.A. and is a quality part worth the extra price. So far I have not experienced an accidental mag release even though I have intentionally laid the pistol down on that side.
Why didn't Glock make this?(21/01/2012)
I just received and installed this extended mag release and couldn't be happier with the product. It offers the perfect amount of extension to help release the mag. I'm not an expert shooter nor a gunsmith, but I replaced the original in less than a minute. There are many videos on the Internet showing you how to replace the release, but I found the one on Brownells' site the best. In fact, I played/paused it as I was making the change and it made the install a snap. I recommend it to anyone needing a little extra extension on the release to avoid using two hands or to go "off-target" when changing mags. Glock should have thought of this first and made it standard on all of their guns.
Great part(20/04/2012)
I've got the Vickers mag release in both my EDC G19's, and have had them for a long time. They split the difference in the length of the release button between the stock factory release and the factory extended release. All that's needed to install is a thin bladed, long shafted flat head screwdriver. It's an easy drop in fit. The only downside is cost. The factory extended part is only a few bucks and can be filed down and retextured with a wood burning tool.
Great Product(25/06/2012)
Easy install and perfect length.
Definitely a MUST HAVE part!(20/08/2012)
This is a part that I would HIGHLY recommend to any Glock owner. It's the perfect length, not too long like the factory Glock extended mag release (not mention that the factory part has overly sharp edges).
The fit/finish/quality is perfect. I'm not sure what part "glock man" received but I've upgrade over 20 Glocks with these (bought at various times) and every single one has been a perfect fit. I also use these in IDPA/IPSC and haven't a single problem.
HAVE SOLD MANY OF THEM(12/11/2012)
INSTALLED WORKS AS ADVERTISED.
Just right(26/11/2012)
Easy to install and just the right length. I plan on installing this part on all my Glocks.
Positive mag release(19/01/2013)
The extra length gives me a more positive feel when depressing the mag release. The original Glock mag release felt like I had to give it more effort to release the magazine. The extended mag release doesn't interfere with my holster, or should I say the holster doesn't depress the mag release to cause the magazine to release. In addition, if you have a holster that doesn't cover the mag release, the clothing or belt have yet cause the release of the magazine. I recommend having this installed on your Glock if you can't feel the mag release or you think you use a lot of effort with the original mag release.
Awesome(13/11/2013)
Took literally 45 seconds to change out...allows me to drop the mag without changing grip. Great product.
Just What I Needed(03/02/2014)
I do not consider my hands small, but I had to rotate my pistol slightly in order to reach and depress the mag release. The Vickers release is just a little bit taller above the frame and has very nice smooth corners and edges. It is just what I needed to make my Glock 26 perfect. Thank you Brownells and Vickers.
Shorter than the OEM Magazine Release(28/03/2014)
Recently purchased this release after seeing Vicker's You Tube video. Thought it would be an advantage to my Glock 17. After comparing the Vicker's to the OEM out of my pistol, the OEM is longer than the Vicker's. So save your money,$16.95 is way to much money. I guess I got caught up in the moment thinking that it would end up being an exceptional component to add to my pistol. God Bless and Have A Great Day!
Great Mag Release(02/05/2014)
I think Vickers got it right when they made this item. It is just the right size for length and doesn't have the sharp corners like the factory or some other extended models. It is also a single piece so it goes in with ease. It won't catch on clothing or bruise fingers with the rounded edges. If you have a Gen 3 model then try this. I don't think you will be disappointed.
Perfect!(18/06/2014)
This release is the perfect length. It is longer than OEM and shorter than the Ghost releases that I have been using. My other one was too long and snagged on holsters or was just in the way and this fixed that. Highly recommend!
Vickers Glock Magazine Release(26/06/2015)
I found the stock Glock Gen 3 Mag Release difficult to use as it is too small, I had to change my grip during the reloading process which could be deadly during a self defense situation. I tried the Glock extended release but it was too long and with its sharp edges was very uncomfortable during recoil. A friend of mine told me about the Vickers product so I ordered it and took my G23 to the range the day I received and installed it. A perfect fit, first rate product and makes magazine releases easy and quick. Highly recommend this product.
Extended Mag Release?(20/01/2016)
This part is well made and easy to install but before installing this in my Gen 1 G17, I compared it to the original mag release and it was exactly the same size! I couldn't believe it! I installed the new Extended mag release into my G17 and it felt exactly like the old one. With the old mag release, I had to change my grip to reach it with my thumb. I was expecting not to have to do that with this product but I STILL had to change my grip in order to reach the new mag release. Maybe I was expecting too much? I just installed Extended Mag releases on my 1911 and Beretta 96FS and those were actually EXTENDED and I didn't have to change my grip to release the mags. :/
Virtually the same as stock(25/04/2016)
I was excited about this product being ext, but not as extremely as some on the market that can eject when holstered. The problem is that this is essentially the stock product with an ever so slight rounding and I do mean ever so slight and is the exact same length as the stock one in a side by side comparison with one that I removed. The product has a few noticeable difference when compared side by side with the stock part to tell it's not just a modified stock part. I like the concept they were going for especially the slightly rounded tip, but there just isn't enough difference over the stock part to make this a worthy purchase.
Great product!!!(26/06/2017)
I like it, although it only "extends" less than 1 mm over the standard release button on my G17 3rd Gen, but it does feel a bit extended and after a few days I appreciate the little extension it provides: not too much so that you cannot accidentally release the mag by grabbing the gun too hard and/or awkwardly under pressure.
