Great product(13/12/2014)
I have two of these one in the shop and one on a trailer hitch just in case it is needed at the range. Rugged powder coated finish.
Strong and heavy(29/12/2014)
This barrel vise is built strong and heavy. I used it to install a new barrel on a Rem 700 action. The barrel had a taper and I was worried about "shimming" the new barrel in the vise. I didn't have to. The way it is built with the springs and the over-sized holes, it conformed to the taper of the barrel with no problem. I had freshly parkerized the barrel so I wrapped it with a thick piece of paper from a charcoal bag, although, with the soft powder coat that is on this vise, it probably wasn't necessary. I tend to overdo my projects and this is my kind of tool. It is extremely strong and very heavy. Did I mention that it is strong and heavy?
TOP SHELF VICE(30/01/2015)
Bought this after looking at about a dozen vices. Price was no object but I didn't want to use wooden blocks like some other vices recommended. This is a very well made piece of equipment. I have multiple benchrest rifles and dozens of barrels and I wanted a vice that was easy to use, portable, and I wanted a vice that would not mar my barrels. I couldn't be happier with it.
Vipr Vise Review(16/02/2015)
I bought this vise on a lark so to speak as it was 60 bucks, but looked well built for the money. After receiving it I realized it and was more for the shooter who has a custom rifle and removes his barrel on a regular basis. I, on the other hand, work primarily on older military rifles so I had doubts this vise would remove an older milsurp barrel. I decided to try this vise removing a 30-40 Krag barrel off an old 1898 Springfield. I stripped the rifle down and had the barrel off in less than 30 mins!! No fooling around with vise bushings and stuff, just installed the receiver/barrel in the vise tightened the nuts. First attempt the barrel just slightly turned so I thought OK give it some more. I tightened the vise nuts some more and "viola" the receiver came off like a charm. Hopefully it will work the same when I install the new barrel. For right now I am impressed with this $60.00 vise. I didn't have to use any rosin as the powder coating seemed to grip the barrel well enough on its own. Great item for the money....so far.

Used to build a Mauser sporter...(03/09/2015)
Had a Yugo K98 I needed rebarreling. I got one of the cheap 30-06 Brownell's large ring barrels and went to town. My biggest mistake was buying the pull-through reamer from a competitor. It doesn't seem as good as the one's Brownell's sells. Recommend mounting this a bit off the bench (not directly on) to have clearance for pull through reamer handle or whatever.
No scuffs or marks on barrel. Great product. Manufacturer says not to put anything between barrel and vise... Powder coating is enough.
Excellent Barrel Vise(06/07/2016)
I have only used the vise three times so far, but it has worked flawlessly every time. The vise did not twist or marr the finish on any of the barrels. I could not find any recommendations on how many ft. lbs. of torque to put on the nuts of the vise, so I started at 45 ft lbs and that was all it took. I probably could have gone down to 35 ft lbs, but 45 worked so I am sticking with it. One of the guns I was working on was an Ruger Precision Rifle. I read that the barrel nuts could be tough to release, but with this vise it was no problem.
Excellent(31/12/2016)
Used this to remove a barrel on a late model stainless 700 action. Ran the nuts down with a Dewalt then finished with a box wrench on a straighter section of the barrel. I had no slipping problems once I realized I should tighten it way up. I'm now using it all the time for rifle work just to have a stable platform. Working an action out of the stock was always a pain.
Fabulous(13/06/2017)
Right tool for the right job. I used the BV to remove the barrel nut on a Ruger Precision .308, The BV held the barrel in place with no marring, the barrel nut "hard nut to crack, so they say" came off with ease. The stock barrel was replaces with a carbon fiber barrel with no marring during the torquing process. I am totally delighted with the BV.
Great ,Great,Great Vise for the Money!(19/02/2018)
I Dont bother mounting this Vise to my Bench I mount it in one of my Vises mounted to my bench that way if I'm not mounting a barrel its out of the way, also it has never failed me on any barrel removal job its a strong vise once that barrels mounted in it its not going anywhere but on or off that reciever ,I have not found a barrel yet I could not use it on do yourself a favor and toss all the barrel vises with inserts etc or ones that will only take certain barrels off junk them and buy this one for 60 bucks it takes them all off.
It Just Works!!!(03/09/2018)
I needed a barrel vise to install a new Seekins handguard on my Ruger Precision rifle. After looking at several, I settled on this one based on all the reviews and I'm glad I did. Made of steel and iron, it should last a long time. Held the barrel solid as a rock . I was a bit concerned about damaging the finish on the barrel so I wrapped it in a piece of chamois cloth I had laying around and it still held solid. Torqued the bolts to 30 ft lbs and went to work. The red block will jam up on the bolts if you don't loosen the nuts evenly but other than that, it worked like a charm. Love it to pieces!!!
Brilliant design(30/09/2018)
With just some pieces of cardboard box cutouts to prevent scratches, this thing holds on to the barrel like there's no tomorrow.
You don't even need a workbench. I bought two set of 5" long 1/2" nuts, bolts, and washers, and mounted it directly onto a piece of 4x4 lumber.
Using a breaker bar while either standing or sitting on the 4x4, I could remove the most stubbornly installed muzzle brake with ease.
No need for bushings or any of that nonsense, either.
