sweet forearm(07/09/2009)
went on with no problems, even finish, looks better then most other forearms, no complaints from me
Great Product(14/01/2010)
Perfect fit and quality. I have used several YHM forends and would recomend any of them. Installed this one on my personal gun and love it.
Unmatchable value!(21/04/2010)
I have been waiting for these to be in stock for months now, and my waiting has finally been rewarded. When I first saw this handguard I knew it was the one. It has all the features that I was looking for: free floating, quad rail with numbered markings, extended top rail (which btw matches up to the flattop on my DPMS A3 Upper PERFECTLY), a high quality fit and finish (which also matches my recievers), and a stylish lightweight design that easily rivals handguards costing 2-3 times the price I paid for this. Definitely get the threaded endcap tho, for the extra $20, it really completes the look, especially on the specter length handguards where the main objective is to cover the gas block. Another word of caution, be very careful when selecting a gas block to go under this handguard, it is very small inside and only a select few will fit. I got the YHM specter gas block, which is of similar quality to the handguard and fairly cheap compared to many other low profile gas blocks. Overall this is an excelent handguard and I will definately be using one on a future build!
Comes with everything you need for it (unless you want the free float tube end cap, which screws into the muzzle end of the tube), minus of course the tools. Instructions were complete and easy to understand. When assembled, this bad boy was rock solid and didn't move. Doesn't require and kind of loctite or whatever, as the tube is secure into position via two set screws that lock into a slot on the barrel nut (which is also included). I have yet to find a better looking, more practical forend for tactical purposes out there that is a better value. Look no further than YHM.
Attractive, Strong, Lightweight(22/01/2011)
Istalled one of these and then ran the gun through a thorough test run over several outings. I was surprised at how lightweight the forearm is. It's also very strong. Very high build quality. I prefer YHM's customizable tube, but if you're looking for something with permanent rails, this would be my choice.
Great Rail!!(18/06/2011)
For the price this is one of the nicest rails Ive seen. The only other rail I like beside this one is the Troy MRF. Beware the front holed piece does not come with this. However I like mine without it. Also does not come with a tool, However I got by with some decent wrenches and other tools. I would recommend getting the tool because you can damage it if your not careful. [...]. Great buy and highly recommended. ****
Great Product(13/10/2011)
Good fit and finish. Top rail height lines up almost perfect. Top rail width appears to be slightly out of spec with mil-spec upper receiver, but not horrible.
Will buy again for other builds.
Awesome Forearm(16/04/2012)
This is a really nice forearm. It looks good and lines up really well with the rail on the upper. You can just see the gas tube through the diamond pattern which looks cool. The barrel nut it comes with is nice too. It uses a standard barrel wrench. I also added the end cap, and I would reccomend that.
GREAT!(05/08/2012)
Easy to install (if you've worked on an AR before), and looks and functions great! As with most Yankee Hill products, great quality!
Good value and solid construction(25/08/2015)
Great battle rail(05/04/2011)
This is one great piece of gear. Fit and finish is top tier. Went on great, looks great and is rock solid once you get it all locked down. I mean ROCK SOLID!
I didn't get it but you are probably going to want to get the YHM wrench that tightens down the jam nut. I used a screwdriver and a hammer but I don't recommend this method.
My only complaint if I had one is that it's a bit on the heavy side. I was surprised by how heavy it was. It looks very skeletonized but there is some heft to it. I guess that could be considered a good thing. It IS one solid forearm. You won't be disappointed.
It's got the look to impress(08/05/2011)
Whether you are building a custom full bore AR or AR22, YHM's diamond series handguards are sure to please. These high quality accessories has the look, finish and versatility of true high end freefloat handguard but with a price tag that cannot be beat. Absolutely a 5 star beauty.
very pleased(29/08/2013)
To start out this hand guard looks very good and feels good too. The rails don't have any sharp edges so it's pretty easy to shoot without rail covers or gloves. the diamond pattern is supposed to help keep it cool and it does stay cooler than other guards. The added length allowed me to put my magpul forward grip right under the gas block witch gives me much more control over recoil and muzzle control. I did not purchase the end cap to go with it and don't think i will seeing as it looks awesome without it.
Does not cover a low pro gas block(04/05/2014)
Let me start off by saying I am a first time builder. That being said I took the description of a mid-length free float hand guard to mean it would extend past the gas block. Well I was wrong. My learning experience is now yours. if you want to cover the gas block on a mid-length system you will want at least a 12" forearm. The description basically tells you that the forearm will stop just before the gas black. Besides my error, this is a quality forearm that i will install on a carbine length system down the road.
Get The Forearm Wrench!!! (14/02/2015)
I gave this product 4 stars simply because you need the additional Yankee Hill Forearm Wrench to install it. I would like to see Brownells mention that fact in the description. I got halfway into the build and realized that my armor's wrench was not up to the job. Other than that no complaints.
"The gap is gone"(03/03/2010)
I mated this up with a Daniel defense barrel on a VLTOR mur upper, perfect alignment on upper rails, excellent balance between function and beauty, have always liked YHM's barrel lockup system
Very nice fit(25/12/2010)
I bought this forend to go with my DPMS 11.5" barrel and the Brownell's 080-000-814 ZOMBIE HUNTER AR15/M16 UPPER RECEIVER. The fit and finish are perfect. The rails on both parts lined up perfectly with a gap so small, it's not even worth mentioning. I finished it all off with the Troy Ind. 100-004-377 MODULAR COMBAT GRIP-BLACK for added control in full auto fire. One thing, I neglected to order the YMH 100-002-897 15/16" I.D. End Cap to give it that "finished" look. I'm ordering one today and I hope it fits the heavy profile M/G barrel. I would have to rate this as one of my best purchases so far.
real nice rail(23/07/2012)
installed on a dpms ap4. installs easily and the jam nut and set screws lock it up nice and tight. no gap between rail and upper, which looks great. rail is very rigid and well machined. i would recommend this to anyone who wants a free float handguard with rails.
Great Piece of Kit(04/08/2012)
Bought this to update a carbine length pre-ban Bushmaster. Fit and finish were superb. I had been wanting to install a free float hand guard for years. Easy install with the proper tools from Brownells and after reviewing a few of the AR specific Guntech videos. You can do this install yourself if you have a sturdy vise and a few additional tools
CAR Free Float(09/09/2012)
I highly recommend this product. Very nice looking and functional. If you have a pinned front sight, purchase the Brownells front sight block: 080-000-252WB AR-15 Front Sight Bench Block
The YHM forearm end cap is not included and must be ordered separetly, but I would recommend buying one.
While the front sight base and gas tube are removed, clean thoroughly, degrease with some break cleaner, and apply a coat of high-heat flat black paint to the gas tube before reinstalling. The gas tube will then be anti-reflective.
Watch the Brownells videos for installation to decide what other tools you may need prior to ordering.
Yankee Hill free-float forends for AR-15(07/03/2013)
I've used these free-float Yankee Hill hand guards on several AR-15 carbines and rifle length barrelled units also with barrels of the same manufacture and find the wormanship, finish, and correct tolerances and specs besides ease to install to be none better!
love my handguard(17/06/2013)
looks great very well made wiil tell my friends where to get one, comes with everything but end cap sold seoerstly at Brownells
Great Rail(02/08/2013)
I have 3 of these rails (and 3 12" YHM Rails)because you can't beat their quality for the price. Comparable to the Midwest Industries rail, another awesome rail. The only problem I have with the YHM Diamond series of rails is that the cross slots do not line up with the upper on any of them. So if you have a one piece scope base that would otherwise extend past the end of your upper, the only way to get it to fit properly is to leave a HUGE gap between the YHM Rail and your upper. Not a big deal if you're keeping your optics separate from the upper and the fore-end. It's like this on every YHM rail I've purchased. But for the price and the ability to have a full free floated rail system, it's hard to beat.
Another homerun from Brownell's(07/12/2015)
Once again Brownell's sent a product that was just as advertised. The hand guard looks great, does not add extra weight (feels about the same weight as the original hand guards), was a snap to install and is very secure with NO movement. The only negative I can pass on is that it would have been nice to include the wrench to tighten the lock ring on the barrel nut. I got it tight but had to red-neck engineer a wrench.
won't work on Bushmaster Carbon 15(18/07/2018)
I have no problem with the product. I have used them on many gun through my shop. I did find out (the hard way) that the barrel nut threads on the Bushmaster Carbon 15 is larger that the one supplied with this product. Maybe Brownells can add that to the description.
rock solid(23/02/2010)
great fit on my colt ar hbar.solid piece of gear.used it 1st time over weekend loved it,don't know if i shot any better but it looks really good.
YHM Diamond Series Is Looks Awesome(12/11/2011)
I ordered the YHM Diamond Series 12" Free Float handgaurd specifically to review for my fellow AR-15 builders and enthusiasts. I used this handgaurd on my newest custom build and it looks great! It is super light weight and has a great finish. I personally love the look of a rifle length handgaurd on a 16" barrel, so that is how I configured my newest build.
There were a lot of choices in handgaurds, but I wanted something from YHM. I have never owned a Diamond Series model until now and I am glad I chose it. This handgaurd was super easy to install (with the right tools of course) and came with all required installation hardware and instructions.
This handgaurd is not only easy on the eyes, but is made very well and appears to be tough as nails. The diamond style venting looks awesome and definately gave my rifle a very custom look as compared to other handgaurds I have used in the past. It also allows for the heat from a hot barrel to dissipate quickly keeping your hand cool. I ran a 3 gun match with this rifle the other day and never noticed the heat from a barrel after a full course of fire.
The Diamond Series handgaurds are unique and function quite well. Once the anti-rotation screws are tightened, the handgaurd is solid as a rock with no movement at all. Once installed correctly, it does not leave a gap between handgaurd and receiver rail like most other handgaurds...it makes it look like one solid continuous rail which rocks!
I would recommend this handgaurd to anyone who wants a well made quality rail without spending bookoo bucks. The quality definately exceeds the cost! You will not be disappointed.
Well Made(02/03/2012)
The handguard is very well made and sturdy. I would recommend buying the end cap to dress it up. I have had no issues or problems with it. Very good product. The only downside is that Yankee Hill wants you to buy their nut wrench to tighten the jam nut. I had another tool that worked just fine.
Works Great and Looks Good Doing It(10/08/2012)
Bought two of these to update a couple of rifle length pre-ban Bushmasters. Fit and finish were superb. I had been wanting to install a free float hand guard for years. Easy install with the proper tools from Brownells and after reviewing a few of the AR specific Guntech videos. You can do this install yourself if you have a sturdy vise and a few additional tools.
Excellent(10/01/2013)
I put this on a Barrett upper using a Daniel Defense 11.5" barrel and I have a Noveske "Flaming Pig" flash hider sticking out the end. Build quality, fit and function is flawless. I have 3 of these now and another 2 on backorder with Brownells. Looks great and works great. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone thinking about building an AR style weapon.
Excellent(12/06/2013)
Fantastic looking handguard and fairly simple installation. YHM makes a rail vise that connects the top rail on the handguard with the rail on a flattop receiver to ensure perfect alignment for the gas tube, but you can get the same results by putting the bolt carrier assembly in the upper (along with charging handle) and sliding a #17 drill through the hole. As long as it slides into the gas key without binding you know you're centered.
The jam nut really does require the YHM spanner, although I'd assume that any quality spanner would do the job. The the YHM tool is high-quality and won't break the bank, os it's probably worth it just so you don't scratch the jam nut.
The antirotation pins are clever, but they do booger up the lobes on the barrel nut a bit - it looks like the pins are a hair larger than the cutouts on the barrel nut. No big deal but something to remember.
I also noticed that the jam nut interferes with my lower receiver - it binds on the two forward bosses for the pivot pin. I'll solve that problem by removing the lower and sanding down the jam nut a little with a sanding drum on a Dremel. I haven't seen that complaint anywhere else so I think it's safe to assume I have an out-of-spec receiver - either the lower is too large in the bosses or the upper is cut back too far at the barrel nut.
Best bang for the buck(10/02/2014)
I bought this simply because of its price point. But after receiving the item, I found that its more value than money. It mounts up solid not BS no gimmicks. Simply put the barrel nut on, slide on the handguard and lock it down with the 2 anto-rotation screws. KISS Keep it simple stupid.
Great product(07/03/2015)
Excellent product. Solid good workmanship for the money.
seems nice, but...(05/05/2015)
Seems very nice. Installation very easy. Doesn't fit with the Adams Arms piston kit I'm using on this build. Wish I'd known that in advance of buying it. Now I either have another expensive part I can't use, or have to go to the trouble of returning it.
