Is the low price worth your time?(29/01/2015)
Buy if you're on a budget and have skills. Avoid if "drop-in" were the first words in your query. I'm applying this part to a new SS receiver and immediately noted the body of the safety does not sit flush against the receiver body. Two aspects to this; the grip safety pin is not exactly perpendicular to the body of the safety and casting imperfections on the inside surface. This part requires significant fitting/stoning/blasting (and time) to adequately fit, function and look pretty. All this said, economizing on this part and a JTM grip safety allowed me to afford other, more desired, parts for this build. Two stars for overall value but falls short of even parts-bucket quality/fit/function.
Avoid(14/01/2017)
The spring detent notch on front of safety does not have enough material below it to prevent the safety plunger from dropping below the front lower edge of the safety casting and locking up the safety.
Not the best(28/07/2018)
The item I got had a very long arm that needed more than a little trimming, just to fit in the receiver. The receiver is an ATI - maybe suspect - but several old Colt safeties fit (and work) just fine.
Well folks, by the time I carefully fit the LENGTH of the arm, it became evident that the width of the arm (top to bottom) was insufficient to actually do anything. That is to say, the little nub at the end of the arm didn't swing down enough to intersect the back of the trigger bow. Bummer.
My first thought was that the hooks that intersect the top of the mainspring housing need adjustment to allow the safety to swing further. But this turned out not to be the case. Instead, after close comparison with the ATI grip safety and the old Colt grip safeties, its quite evident that this safety quite a bit "out of spec". Its like... its bent? Cant unbend it, but I can weld up the arm and recut the entire piece. However, if I wanted to resort to that, I could have just done that to the original (which did block the hammer somewhat, but allowed too much rearward travel, allowing the sear to partially disengage... nice, right from ATI that way, but heck its a $300 1911....!!!)
Sorry, this one's a dud.
good product(27/07/2010)
plenty of meat in the trigger bar, good fit, finish.
Decent Gear(17/01/2011)
Used as a replacement on a basic 1911, this did the job without much hassle. It's also inexpensive enough that if you have to do any work on it yourself and you do screw it up, you're not out much money. Installed pretty easily and was easy to work with. Decent piece of gear. - Be sure to test-fit parts before installing them, as this won't work with some modern rounded hammers that meant for beavertails that have an indention/hammer recess cut. This is meant for GI-style hammer spurs. Make sure you test fit it before you start putting pins in, or you'll have to fight to disassemble it.
Horrible finish(16/08/2011)
Unless your going to re-blue the part, don't bother. Their idea of blued finish looks like a rust brown. I was refinishing the gun anyway and bluing it but for a drop in, you would be seriously disappointed in the finish. Heavy casting and grind marks in the one I got too. I ending up bead blasting and sanding the finish smooth before I blued it. More effort than what I was looking for.
Poor Quality(27/11/2011)
Uneven cut, uneven grind finish, purchased a cheap part to modify. Casting was full of holes. Not evenly ground
great bang for the buck(11/04/2012)
replaced a worn remington r1 grip safety. took all five minutes to replace. above average finish as you can see in the picture.
Poor Quality(30/10/2012)
Purchased this Grip Safety to replace a cosmetically worn Series 80 grip safety. Part is for Series 70 only, but can be filed to work in Series 80 gun.
Part is extremely poorly finished - large cast line down the center that can be felt quite easily, and the black/blue finish is finely scratched everywhere.
Stay away from Masen parts - they are garbage.
Works(22/08/2015)
Functions as a safety but does not have a good finish and casting edges. Can't beat the cost though.
Avoid(18/04/2018)
The finish was better than expected, but when installed the arm did not contact the trigger stirrup. When compared to a surplus GI grip safety, the trigger block arm was significantly higher on the Masen part. Called technical support for advice and was told I should've bought a better quality grip safety.
