Best of the type(06/05/2011)
I've had this scale for five years. I selected the Redding after viewing pictures of it and it's competitors because I felt it was the easiest to read. I don't have steady hands so the small counterpoise is hard for me to position exactly but that is made up by the 1/10 grain over/under markings at the pointer. If I'm making test rounds at 4.4, 4.5 and 4.6 grains (or up to .5 over/under) I just set the small counterpoise at 4.5 and use the over/under scale for my readings and I don't have to change the counterpoise for each grain setting. The aluminum pan has a pouring spout and there is no static causing powder to stick to the surface. I wish the base weighed more to make the scale more steady but overall I'm very happy with it.
Just a good quality scale - Thats it.(01/11/2011)
I really like the Redding No2 scale and have owned a set for several years â Why? Well it's just so honest and straightforward.
The first thing that really stands out is the clear, easy to read graduations on the beam. The crisp white markings on the polished black background just jump out at you, even in less than perfect light conditions, giving you the confidence that you have actually set the weight that you require.
I regularly check my scales with certified lab weights and always find them spot-on and very sensitive although not over damped. The base has a small footprint and an easy to reach zero screw and the aluminium powder pan has a shaped spout that pours well.
The No 2 scale has a 505 grain capacity and quite honestly I have never needed anything more. There is really nothing to go wrong with a good balance scale as long as they are not abused, these scales should last a lifetime and even if you have the latest digital scales a reliable beam scale like this should be on every reloaders bench.
Great Scale(05/07/2013)
Looked at a lot of scales. Beam and electronic. I have owned a number of scales. Nothing against electronic scales but 5 years from now will it work. On a cold February nite after being stored will it work or will I be off to where ever for a battery? I load mostly pistol and the part of the scale on the beam to the right (under 10 grains) is most important as I am normally under five grains. Bought the weight set from RCBS just to check it but bet it is right on.
Update(15/07/2013)
I wanted to do a quick update on the Redding #2 Scale if Sinclair allows such. I orginally thought I had some problems with accuracy but that turned out to be a test weight problem. I won't go into that here but did write a review on the RCBS test weights if anyone wants to look. With the "good" test weights it was always within .1 grain as advertsed and often times right at 0. I did notice one quirk. At 5 grains the large scale setting was actually more accurate that the 5 grain setting on the small scale. Both were acceptable but in the future if I measure 5 grains will just go to the large scale. The zero screw on the base is a little bit awkward but also helps make for a very compact unit. This unit is very compact. Much more than some others. I store my reloading equipment in a range bag and store the scale in a padded small pistol bag so size was important to me. I added 15 oz of stick on wheel weights to the bottom and use the unit on a vinyl/rubber pad and that has eliminated all movement. That was important as on my table even a few inches of movement threw off the 0. Now it not only looks like a tank but feels like one. White numerals really stand out even in dim light. Hash marks on pointer scale are marked in .1 grains which I used extensively while testing it. Most scales do not have that feature. Very pleased.
Poor finish coating(05/12/2013)
As soon as I inspected the scale I noticed the poor coating that was applied to the body. No where near the quality of there other products I have purchased. The finish is the only thing that is average about this product.
