Good, if you don't use Lapua brand brass(05/02/2012)
My rating would have been 5 star; until recently, when I started trying to prime some Lapua brand brass. Using Hornady brand brass the tool was great, alignment was perfect, and I couldn't have asked for more, from a priming tool. Then I tried priming Lapua brand cases, and they don't fit in the holder, at all. No problem, the tool also came with the holder for use with your shell holder right? Wrong. I've tried 3 different brands of shell holders and the priming ram is too big to fit into the hole in the shell holders. Now I have 100 Lapua brass sitting waiting to prime, and fearing I might have to use the press, since this tool won't prime them.
Great Product(29/06/2012)
This priming head for the Sinclair priming tool works great. I use to prime cases for my .338 Lapua Magnum and I only use Lapua brass for my .338. I have not had a single negative issue with this tool when priming my brass.
Nice, but with serious flaws(10/12/2010)
This tools is very well made, but I had the following problems: A brand new Number 8 Lee Shellholder I needed to use to reload 45-70 Govt. didn't fit easily into the tool. I had to use a punch and hammer to get the shellholder to seat all the way into the head of the priming tool. I will have to use a punch again to get it out to change shellholders - making it very hard to do a quick-change. If you reload more than one caliber this is obviously a major problem. The second problem is the spring that returns the lever to the open position isn't strong enough. It won't open the lever on its own - I have to do it by hand - another annoyance. I've owned this tool before and didn't have any of these problems with the previous tool.
Great product(05/01/2011)
I use this priming tool to prime several different calibers, and have been extremely happy with it. After my last hand priming tool quit working, I finally broke down and spent the money for the Sinclair and after using it I have to say it was worth every penny. The quality of construction is way above any other priming tool I have used, and the level of feel as the primer is seated has to be felt to be appreciated. I used the Sinclair shell holders and they worked flawlessly. I would recomend this tool to anyone who wants to use one of the best priming tools made.
Works, if you read the directions(16/01/2011)
Being a guy, I tried jumping in before reading the directions. Once I did, I learned to use the included shims, and how to lock in the shell-holder with the set screws. Incredibly fine touch. I use it for the 600-yard-line loads for the HP Rifle across-the-course loads.
The only primer tool(s) I use(16/02/2011)
I purchased the first one to use with military .223 Rem. cases because it holds the case and primer squarely in line with each other. I liked it so much that I purchased 2 more so I could have one permanently set up for each of the three head sizes that I load.
Perfect for my 338 Lapua Mag reloads(17/02/2011)
Until I got my primer tool, I had problems with seating my 338 Lapua Mag primers with any consistency. Most were not completely seated. The tool eliminated that problem and now all primers are seated correctly to the exact same depth. I had 200 cases that were primed with a progressive loader that were not seated correctly. I used to the tool to reseat all of the primers iand now they are all set to factory specs.
The only thing that bothers me is having to place each primer by hand.
How priming should be(27/02/2011)
I purchased this priming tool after using the other "big" companies brands. This tool has a much better fit & finish (built like a precision tank). The sense of feel when seating primers is fantastic, no more worries about crushed, belmished primers due to the seating rod not fitting the primer correctly. I liked this priming tool so much I bought a second tool & set one up for large primers, the other for small. If you're priming up hundreds of cases for "blasting" ammo, this tool may not be for you, it is slower to operate because you need to handle the primers individually. On the other hand, if you are loading up meticulously prepaired precision rounds, I don't think you'll find a better priming tool. I'm very pleased with mine.
Super(24/03/2011)
High quality, good feel, will last forever.
You get what you pay for(31/03/2011)
This thing is the handiest device to come along since they started putting latches on toilet doors! Since the first time I tried this, I haven't used my RCBS bench mounted priming tool at all. The mechanical advantage is perfect, the feel is completely accurate. I would recommend having a seperate head already set up with shellholder for the calibers you use a lot.
Solved reloading problems for T/C Encore(04/04/2011)
Used two other brands of primer tools and thought I had headspace problems. A friend told me about the Sinclair tool, bought one and have not had one misfire since. Absolutely seats primers to bottom of primer pocket
best feel of any priming tool(07/04/2011)
this has the best feel of any priming tool I have tried. the way the tool tightens against the case allows the user to feel the whole seating process. also, I like the fact that it has no priming tray with loose primers rattling around.
Perfect Tool for All Applications(07/11/2011)
For those of you that think that the use of hand tools are too far-removed from the relative speed and efficiency of press or progressive reloading -- think again. This tool is ad advertised and provides the best control, feel and repeatability of any priming tool I've ever used. The seating depth is tweaked by very precise shims within the tool. It took me only about 10 mins of trial and error type adjustments to get the exact seating depth I wanted. I then primed 100 cases in just a little more time than it takes when using a ram prime tool. Great thing is that it leaves absolutely no tool marks on your case heads and seats the primer perfectly square to the case. Feels like pushing toothpaste through a tube -- with control and precision. My hands quickly adapted to a process that became very quick by the end of these first 100 cases. Very well worth the money, even for those folks, like myself, who load allot of cases for Highpower competition. You will love it!
Nice workmanship but....(02/07/2012)
Priming tool has great feel when seating primers. The handle is poorly shaped and hurts your palm if seating more than just a few primers at a time. Both of my case holder heads had burrs that kept the case holders from seating until they were removed.
worth every penny(27/07/2012)
Buy this tool and never look back! An absolute joy to use.
Greatest priming tool ever(21/11/2012)
This is an outstanding product. Seating primers with a hand tool is the best way to go, and this is the best hand priming tool out there. Great feel when you are seating the primer. Every primer gets seated to the perfect depth. I am an avid reloader and I have tried many priming tools, and there is none better than this one.
Set screw on shellholder problem(24/04/2013)
This is an extraordinary piece of equipment. Too bad I can't use it. The shell holder requires two SMALL set screws to lock it on place. They requires a tiny allen wrench which is not supplied. I have searched my local hardware and nobody carries wrenches this size. I have no idea where I can find one. Maybe Sinclair will sell me one. At least I can use my cheap Lee product.
Revised from earlier review(20/06/2013)
After having a fir over my lack of correct wrenches (none supplied), I have had many occasions to use this priming tool. It is outstanding in every regard and I DO highly recommend it!
Absolute must for best accuracy(17/11/2014)
I have been reloading for over 30 years. And I am always looking for the best accuracy and how to get there. Since buying this priming tool I am convinced that getting the primer in with "feel" is the only way to get the consistency required for great accuracy. This unit has never let me down. I have always used it for my .308 Lapua brass and constantly shoot sub-MOA groups, even out to 500 yards. Thanks for a truly great product
Fantastic(22/03/2016)
I have been a reloader for 30 years and have tried all kinds of priming tools. I had great reviews about this tool so I broke down and bought it. I used it today for the first time priming a batch of .22-250 cases and Wow!, this tool gives be the best feeling and control I have ever had when priming a case. Very comfortable to use and you know just when the primer is set properly.
Best Priming Tool Ever(23/03/2016)
I have used this product for six months and bought a second one so that I can quickly prime either 9mm or 45 ACP. I just love the positive feel and control this tool provides. Buy one better yet buy two you will not regret your purchase solid quality construction and made in the USA.
Best I've Ever Used(25/01/2017)
I shoot F(tr) competitions using a 308 Win. cartridge and have meticulously reloaded for about 10 years now. I have tried every priming tool on the market including the K&M with dial indicator and this is by far the best tool I've ever used. I have a primer tray that I shake to get the primers in the right direction and then I just pick them off and put them in the tool. By using the included shims I get perfect seating every time. It is a one-at-a-time process but I've never had a problem when I've used this tool.
Best Priming Tool(14/06/2017)
I've been using the Sinclair Priming Tool when they first came out. A gentleman gun store owner showed it to me and I insisted he sell it to me. He didn't want to but finally broke down and did. This is one tool that I really cherish because of the quality and primer seating feel that it has. Customer support is bar none, as I lost a small primer housing and punch and they made a replacement happen. I was ready to buy another tool if necessary!
Outstanding tool(04/01/2018)
I have been using a much modified XXX priming tool for last 10 years and was looking for something more precise so I bought this one. When you plan and pocket ream as I do you want this tool cos you can adjust it perfectly for that brass type. I just love the feeling of this tool. Just one thing read the instructions and adjust it to your like. Well done Sinclair. THANKS.
everything they say it is but still junk(11/07/2018)
Built to last a lifetime, but not a life worth living.
To start, this tool will most likely never fail, it has great feel, nothing plastic and does what it says it will.
Now, onto the more important information. To adjust shellholder to lock involves use of spacers in relation to a plunger that is adjusted by thread (that is thread locked). To adjust Priming rod you have to crank a (was perfectly smooth) plunger which changes the spacers needed in the first step. If the plunger is not thread locked it can walk up and down and change either of the relationships noted above. To adjust plunger up and down with thread locker involves a benchtop vice, rubber padding, a herculean effort, and a bunch of polishing to repair the damage the vice just did to the once pristine plunger that you had to adjust. All this requiring proprietary shellholders, awkward locking mechanism, and a whole lot of tweaking just to get started, in order to prime one brass at a time.
I know die hard sinclair fanboys will probably roast me for mentioning the negatives, but for the price, I'd steer clear.
